Review :Injustice God among Us.

The Good

  • Brutal presentation makes you feel powerful
  • New mechanics build upon Mortal Kombat's foundation in creative ways
  • STAR Labs missions are a fun distraction.

The Bad

  • Minimal educational tools
  • Disappointingly dull story
  • Lacks replay support.
When it comes to superheroes-turned-street fighters, DC Comics' stable of superfriends have always received the short end of the stick. While Marvel enjoys the steady success of Capcom's legendary Vs. series, the likes ofJustice League Task Force and Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe have not done DC any favors. Injustice: Gods Among Us, the latest fighter from the house of Mortal Kombat, aims to break this combo with a fighting system that builds upon the lessons of MK, while also introducing a few new tricks. But for all its complexities, Injustice unfortunately falls short when compared to its contemporaries.
If you are familiar with Mortal Kombat, you will feel right at home in Injustice. Character movement has that same deliberate, staccato style that's distinct from the fighting genre's Japanese-developed counterparts. That style feeds into the satisfying weight and brutality of each attack, whether it's Bane breaking you over his knee or Hawkgirl taking her mace to your face. Controlling these characters feels powerful, and the destruction you bring upon your opponent and the environment add excitement to each fight.
While MK and Injustice have a similar feel, their underlying mechanics are very different. Injustice has three attack buttons and a special trait button. Whether it's flight, healing, or a simple strength boost, these traits are unique to each fighter and play into their particular abilities and histories. The distinctions are clearly apparent, and don't just boil down to slightly altered punches and kicks.
Clashes are another interesting mechanic. When activated, they instantly interrupt a combo, and then both players secretly spend an amount of their super meter. If the fighter who initiated the clash spends more, he regains health proportional to the amount spent; otherwise, he takes damage proportional to what his opponent spent. Clashes can be used only once per round, per character, and only if the initiator is down to his second health bar. The threat of a clash adds an interesting dynamic to the back half of a fight. It forces you to constantly reevaluate how much meter to save and spend based on what your opponent has stored.
While clashes are only a two-time threat, Injustice's interactive backgrounds are a constant hazard. Peppered throughout each stage are items--a missile here, a motorcycle there--for characters to use. Different characters use these items in different ways. Some use these objects as weapons to be smashed over an opponent's head, while others use them as springboards to quickly navigate the arena. These items are a fun way to augment your fighter's arsenal and take stage awareness to a new extreme. Knowing that a combo could put your opponent near a deadly item might make you think twice before launching your assault.
Injustice does not have rounds. Instead, you have two health bars, and when they run out the match is over.
I
It's too bad that so many characters simply destroy these background objects. A stone tablet that Batman can spring off of to reach the other side of the screen, Superman just smashes. Superman--along with the game's other heavyweights--smashes almost everything he touches. In some stages, it is too easy to smash all of the interactive objects early on simply to deny your opponent their functions. This is especially troublesome for characters with limited mobility options who need these items to compensate for their shortcomings.

Will Samsung's next phone be metal like the iPhone?

There's something about the plastic nature of Samsung's phones that make them slightly less attractive.
To me, that is.
I know that there are millions to whom it doesn't make a difference. There are even many, no doubt, who believe -- in some idiosyncratic way -- that plastic says now, rather than, oh, six months ago.
Some of these people are 13 years old.
However, not all of these people work for Samsung. Indeed, the SamMobile blog last week revealed that it had heard whispers from South Korea that some at Samsung believe plastic isn't quite fantastic.
It appears that the metal sophistication of the iPhone 5 and the recent appearance of the HTC One, with its very pretty all-aluminum nature, have injected additional quandaries into Samsung's furrowed brows.
This has resulted in strong pulses suggesting that the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 may be metal or perhaps some other substance. But not plastic.
Moreover, there apparently existed a metal prototype of the Galaxy S4 that had a lot of souls leaping in Seoul. The time difficulties associated with mass producing such metal phones may have influenced the ultimate choice of the S4's familiar plastic.
Defenders of plastic offer a myriad of practicalities in its design use. But perhaps there is a bigger question: given how successful both the S series and the Galaxy Note have been, has plastic become something of a brand differentiator for Samsung?
And what if Apple decided to release its much-rumored cheaper iPhone and it turned out to be plastic? This week, an image of just such a thing slithered into public view.Do people truly embrace the plastic nature or is it something they accept that comes along with the joy of large screens and easy sharing of sex tapes?
Would the appearance of an inexpensive iPhone put even more pressure on Samsung to upgrade its materials on more expensive phones?
But if it did, would Apple's aluminum-hearted lawyers rush to Judge Lucy Koh and sniffle that Samsung was copying Apple again? You know, just for the fun of it.
One can imagine some of the tortured questions plaguing minds at Samsung's HQ. One can imagine designers staring hard at production and money people and demanding to have their way.
It's often said that design trumps everything at Apple. What if Samsung decided that it, too, would commit itself to that notion?
Does it really take that much head-banging to embrace metallica? Or, by the time Samsung does, will metal suddenly be passe?

Play 15 classic consoles with one controller

Project Unity
It's called Project Unity, and it's been the labor of love for the modder known as Bacteria. It's taken three years and 3,500 hours of work, but it's finally done.
Unity houses the original circuit boards from 15 classic consoles, all powered by a single PSU and outputting via a single Scart cable.
Most clever of all is the single master gamepad designed by Bacteria. The controller actually takes a custom-built cartridge, which maps out the control interface for the required system. So, to play a PlayStation 2 game, for example, you plug the PS2 cartridge into the gamepad and it'll behave like the appropriate controller.
The cost to its creator has been roughly $1,069, and the final product has around 98 feet of cables inside and weighs in at about 44 pounds.
Here's the full list of consoles built in:
  • Armstrad GX1000
  • Atari 7800
  • Colecovision
  • Intellivision
  • NEC TurboGrafx X
  • NeoGeo MVS
  • Nintendo Entertainment System (NES)
  • Nintendo GameCube
  • Nintendo 64
  • Sega Dreamcast
  • Sega MegaDrive (Genesis)
  • Sega Master System
  • Sega Saturn
  • Sony PlayStation 2
  • Super Nintendo (SNES)
Bacteria noted that it can actually play games from 18 consoles: the PS2 will play PS1 games, the Atari 7800 will play 2600 games, and the GameCube will play GBA games.
The video below explains its creation, and shows a demo of the system and gamepad.

The best Windows 8 gaming laptops

Hello gamers and blogger today laptop is an essential part of our life that's why we brought some latest and tough laptop series for gaming. i think that these laptops are also suitable for the bloggers also. So have a look on them..
We recently complained about the lack of a single best-case gaming laptop for the Windows 8 era. That was largely because of the handful of portable PCs with higher-end graphics cards we'd reviewed in the six months since Microsoft's new OS took over, none thought to include a touch-screen display. That's a feature not particularly called for in even current-gen PC games, but it's one that Windows 8 practically begs for during the hours when you're not using your laptop for gaming.
Since then, we've finished reviews of a couple more gaming laptops -- again with high-end GPUs but no touch screens -- as well as the Razer Edge, a unique Window 8 tablet/hybrid that offers both modest gaming chops and hardware specifically built around Windows 8.
Even though we're still waiting for a true no-compromise Windows 8 gaming system, many of the high-end laptops and tablets we've tested are still great for games, from the premium performance in the Qosmio X875 to the very reasonably priced Lenovo IdeaPad Y500.

Toshiba Qosmio X875
One of the only 17-inch gaming laptops with a hybrid hard drive, the massive Toshiba Qosmio X875 already stands out from the slim ultrabooks and convertibles we've seen, but it lacks a touch screen. Oddly, our model included 3D glasses, but you can skip that and save a few dollars.

Razer Edge
The Razer Edge is a 10-inch Windows 8 tablet with either a Core i5 or i7 processor, and what it brings to the table are gaming-caliber Nvidia GeForce graphics, and a variety of optional versatile gamer-targeted accessories: a snap-on GamePad Controller, a dock with HDMI-out and extra USB ports for TV connectivity, and even a future laptop/keyboard accessory.

Lenovo IdeaPad Y500
The current version of the Lenovo IdeaPad Y500 is a laptop that's hard not to like. A chunky, 15-inch Windows 8 machine with some real gaming muscle, sharp design, and a funky red-on-black backlit keyboard -- if it only had a touch screen for a frustration-free Windows 8 experience, this might be my favorite laptop of 2013 to date.

Origin PC EON17-SLX
No one puts together custom high-end gaming laptops, including this desktop-busting 17-inch EON17-SLX, better than Origin PC, but the generic-looking off-the-shelf body isn't becoming of a $4,000 laptop, and Windows 8 feels odd without a touch screen.

Sony Vaio E17
If you want a reasonably priced desktop-replacement big-screen laptop with AMD graphics, the Vaio E17 is worth a look. But it's not a good Windows 8 showcase machine, as it lacks any touch interface other than a small touch pad.

The Anatomy of a Ninja Turtle

Strange. Stylish. Hideous. Awesome. This modern, realistic take on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles lineup has been called a lot of things. But no matter the verdict, all will agree that it's certainly distinct--and distinction has always been the goal for developers Kris Taylor and Chris Frechette of Red Fly Studio. As Turtles fans themselves, they relished the opportunity to make their mark on Turtles history with a style unlike anything the franchise has seen before. Learn how Red Fly Studio pulled it off.
Before deciding on their designs for the turtles, Frechette and Taylor knew Out of the Shadows was going to feel different. Having experienced the height of Turtles mania in the late '80s and early '90s, both designers decided early on that they wanted their game to have a more mature theme that older audiences would gravitate toward.
The world came first. Their vision of Manhattan was much darker and grittier than what had come before and would therefore need a new breed of turtle. To help find a jumping-off point for this new breed, the pair reached out to veteran character designer Carlos Haunte, who inked the concept art shown above. Frechette and Taylor were floored. Never before had they seen designs quite like this. From the patterns on their skin to the articulate musculature, these turtles could almost be real.
That distinction--that realism--quickly became one of the team's guidelines. They wanted not only for their four heroes to stand apart from the franchise's past, but for each turtle to have his own unique style as well. As Taylor explains, "One of our main goals when we started this project was: if you see one of these turtles alone and without any color identification, you need to know who it is."
"We worked really hard with [Haunte] to develop these shape symbols, which helped define the turtles both mentally and physically. You'll notice Leonardo is a triangle, which is a focused and sharp shape because he's the focused leader of the group. That shape is worked into his physique, his face, and even the angles of his eyes. I think that really helped us get these characters feeling as unique as they do. Now when I see them, I have no question of who's who. They all have their own identities."
Those identities didn't just start and end with Haunte's work; they were just the beginning. Red Fly still had a lifetime of Turtles artwork to draw from. "[In the piece above] I have three versions of Donatello," said Taylor. "The one on the far left is based on the toys and old cartoons, combined with being more realistically defined. The one on the far right was based on [Haunte's] original works. We then tried to meet in the middle with a blend of styles. The piece is all about that transition."
As the designs evolved, the team found its stride in balancing designs old and new, unique and original. The character shapes, skin tones, and sheer grit of Haunte's work was married with the distinct character patterns found in the current Nickelodeon cartoon. In the image below, you can see how Donatello is tall and lanky, while Raphael is a bit shorter and much stockier. Striking this balance was important for the team as a way to honor the franchise's long and colorful history.
"There are fans that cherish the original comics, fans who love the '90s cartoon, and now fans who are into the new generation of Turtles," explained Frechette. "There have been so many incarnations of [the Turtles] that I think everybody has something different they enjoy about a specific look or feel. Having the chance to put our own stamp on these designs--as fans--has been a huge deal for us."
As Turtles fans, the team spent a lot of time sweating the finer details of their designs. Some issues, such as the inclusion of tails, were easier to resolve than others. "We opted to lose the tail," Frechette stated. "Starting out, we said to ourselves, 'Let's go back to the original comics and put the tail back in.' But then, as we were thumbing through some of the older comics, we noticed every time those guys would do the splits, [the tail] stopped looking like a tail…and started looking like something else!"
Eyes were another animal altogether. Some team members favored having irises and pupils, while others preferred the all-white style. "My stance was: it has been established both ways, so there's really no wrong answer here," said Taylor. "But we also wanted to have a lot of story-driven scenes, and eyes are a subtle thing we connect with as viewers. If we went all white all the time, it would make that emotional connection very difficult."
Even so, Frechette was a diehard advocate of the imposing, all-white eyes. Eventually, as Frechette explains, a compromise was reached. "In the Nickelodeon show, [the turtles] have irises and pupils untilthey get into combat, and then BAM they have all-white eyes. We adopted that style for our game as well, and it really pops. A lot of our environments are pretty dark, so when you draw your weapons and see those eyes pop, it feels really good."
Redesigning such beloved characters is always a tall order, and the only guarantee is that you won't please everyone. Still, the team insists that the challenge is worthwhile. "I think it's a little lazy to just fall back on what's already been done and what has already been seen," said Frechette. "But I think it is important to respect the franchise and find that sweet spot between meeting the fans' expectations and giving them something they eventually grow to appreciate and are glad it happened."
"It was a long process to get to the end," Taylor added, "but we put a lot of work into it, and everyone here is really proud of what we've come up with. We think we got a really good feel for these characters, and we're excited to hear what the fans think about them." You can see these new Turtles in action when Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows is released on Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network, and PC this summer.
