Payday 2 Review

The Good

  • Captures the drama and satisfaction of daring heists
  •
  •
  • New skills enable new tactics
  •
  • Element of randomness keeps you on your toes.

The Bad

  • Some randomness is due to bugs
  •
  • Reward pipeline is problematic
  •
  • Friendly AI is all but useless.
In crime, as in game development, things don't always go as planned. A suspicious passerby might call the cops in early, and then those cops might phase through a wall. The loot you expect to find might not be there, and the end-of-heist reward you're hoping for might never arrive. Civilians might try to flee in the middle of a firefight, or they might disappear through the floor. And yet, despite the potential pitfalls and the actual flaws of Payday 2, things have a way of coming together. The tension of planning and keeping things quiet, the excitement of asserting control when all hell breaks loose, and the satisfaction of a successful score outshine any dull spots, making Payday 2 an immensely enjoyable way to team up for a life of crime.
As part of the four-man crew of Hoxton, Chains, Dallas, and Wolf, you are contracted to do jobs by a dude named Bain. He sets you up with various shady characters and presents you with a city map of constantly changing opportunities. There are around 10 distinct jobs that pop up regularly with varying difficulty levels that affect how hard and how lucrative they will be. Some are stand-alone gigs, like bank heists, store robberies, and nightclub burglaries, while others span multiple days and involve stealing art, cooking meth, transporting drugs, dealing with gang members, and stealing from senators.
Mission objectives are generally clear, though there are a number of subtleties to contend with as well. Some challenges can be mastered by experience; it won't take you long to memorize the floor plan of the bank, and you quickly become familiar with the penalty for setting off alarms in the art gallery. Others require you to be flexible; cameras and security guards aren't always in the same place, and even doors, safes, and getaway spots can vary from mission to mission. This mix of constancy and variability does a great job of making you feel more confident with each mission while simultaneously keeping you on your toes. You can never be perfectly prepared for a job, and that's the way it should be.
Unfortunately, there are also some things that are more difficult to prepare for. Strange happenings with civilian and police character models, walls that you can pull solid objects through, and other technical oddities crop up throughout Payday 2. They usually have only minor effects on your criminal activity, but they do add a sour note to the otherwise welcome unpredictability. Such issues aren't likely to derail your heists, but they are occasionally enough to turn your stealthy infiltration into a messy affair.
Sometimes being a good teammate involves a lot of shotgunning.
Sometimes being a good teammate involves a lot of shotgunning.
Keeping things quiet is one of the biggest challenges of Payday 2 because so much can go wrong. A suspicious civilian might see you put on your mask. A security camera might spot you at a distance. A guard might round the corner when you're not expecting it. The guy on the radio might not believe you when you pretend to be the guard you just knocked out. Or someone, somewhere might hear the tinkling of broken glass, and before you know it, the cops are on their way and your escape van has bugged out. Completing a job without the cavalry showing up triggers a rush of giddy satisfaction, but more often than not, you're going to have to shoot your way out.
Once the alarm has sounded, the cops are on their way, but you can still manage the situation. Taking civilian hostages delays the armed escalation, keeping the really tough enemies at bay for a while. Moving your loot to a defensible position, closing the metal shutters on a store, or finding planks to board up a window can help you hold out while you wait for your drill or lock pick or computer hack to work its magic. Meanwhile, the cops come at you, and you gun them down in droves. The gunplay is solid and the AI is aggressive, but combat is more of a war of attrition than a contest of skill. Stick around long enough, and you will inevitably be overrun, no matter how skillfully you delay and fend off the advancing waves. On tougher jobs, there is more loot to grab than you can easily get away with, tempting you to try to hold out a bit longer to get a fatter payday. Get too greedy, however, and all is lost. Payday 2 channels this classic criminal conundrum nicely, right down to the heated mid-battle disagreements between team members

Xbox One will not launch on November 8

Yesterday, a rumour circulated that the as-yet-undated Xbox One may launch on November 8. That information appears to have been incorrect, according to an update by the original reporter, Kotaku.
The previous information--allegedly sourced through a marketing company with close ties to US retailer Walmart--suggested that Microsoft's next-generation console could launch in the first half of the month. A second, unnamed source, reportedly close to the Xbox creator, told the publication that the November 8 date is false, supposedly saying that the date will be later than was originally reported. No specifics were given.
GameSpot contacted Microsoft seeking confirmation, but a spokesperson was unavailable at the time of publication. As mentioned previously, in the absence of any official release details for the system, all dates should be treated as speculation.
Microsoft has so far only confirmed that the Xbox One will launch this November for $499/€499/£429/A$599.

Dream Phone Iphone 5S is Here

We've compiled the results (see below -- just click to enlarge), and asked a range of technology experts to help explain why some desired features make more sense than others.
CNET Senior Editor Eric Franklin using the Asus FonePad.
Go big or go home
The first thing we asked you was what size screen you'd most prefer in the next iPhone. Leading the way was 4.7 inches, which is the same size as the display on the new Moto X, Nokia's Lumia 625, and HTC One (just to name a few).
Individual size options aside, here's the big takeaway: 79 percent of readers who responded want a screen that's larger than the current iPhone 5 screen.
Some bad news for all but the 21 percent of readers who yearned for a 4-inch screen: By nearly every indication, Apple's going to stick with the same 4-inch display for both expected new iPhone models, the 5S and 5C. That's according to NPD DisplaySearch research director Shawn Lee, who expects Apple to go with "almost" the same display technology in its next generation devices. That includes the resolution, size, and use of in-cell touch technology. Lee also said he expects the company to go with the same LED backlighting technology, which -- if changed -- could factor into any kind of major power savings.
Favorite materials
One thing to note here is that there was a typo in the original version of this question. Under the "glass" option, we had said it was the "same as iPhone 5" instead of "iPhone 4/4S." We're inclined to say that skews the results for this one.
Nevertheless, the key takeaway here is that people are big on metal, which came in at 39 percent of the nearly 10,000 votes. Moreover, readers also seem down on plastic, which pulled in just 6 percent of the votes.
Apple chamfering the bezel of the iPhone 5.

While unpopular for a top of the line model, there are plenty of reasons for using plastic once again (Apple did it with the iPhone 3G and 3GS). It's simpler to mass produce, mold, and contour, and can be created in all sorts of colors. There are also some technical benefits. Take the iPhone 5 as an example. Apple had to build windows in the back of the phone for wireless signals to make it through the metal. That won't be an issue with a plastic iPhone.
All together, a jump to plastic on the iPhone 5C is expected to cut the cost of the mechanical parts by around half from the $33 Apple pays on the iPhone 5, to $16 for the 5C, according to recent estimates by Morgan Stanley.
Most important rumored iPhone 5S feature
Better battery life was far and away your most sought after feature, something that shouldn't come as a surprise. Smartphone battery life is improving, but is still a long ways off from what people got used to with feature phones of the past, due in no small part to larger and larger screens that slurp juice.
Apple's iPhone 5 packs a 1,440 mAh battery, which -- according to the company's tests -- breaks down to:
  • 8 hours of talk time on 3G
  • • 8 hours of Internet use on 3G or LTE
  • • 10 hours Internet use on Wi-Fi
  • • 40 hours audio playback
  • • 10 hours video playback
  • • 225 hours of standby

That's about what we got with the iPhone 5's predecessor, the 4S.On testing we managed to get nearly 9 hours of video playback, and anywhere from 7.37 hours to 8.48 hours of talk time, depending on the carrier So the big question, of course, is how Apple could extend it. The easiest way would be to put a larger capacity battery in there, something Apple did with the iPhone 5, but not by much. The previous battery unit was 1,432 mAh, up just slightly from the 1,420 mAh battery in the iPhone 4. But to get a real jump, Apple would need to go bigger.

New Tekken Arcade Contain Tekken 7 (Rumors)

Tekken titles are normally developed on specialized arcade boards that are based on PlayStation hardware, Tekken Tag 2 for example is developed for System 369. And if this new information that was recently put out onto the internet is to be believed, it seems like Tekken 7 is soon to follow this tradition. According to a 2ch post, a new Namco Bandai Arcade system titled "System 478," (based on PS4 hardware perhaps?) is soon to be made and features several games for exhibition such as Tekken 7 & a new game in the Gundam VS series. Since I haven't received any official word from Namco about this yet, I'll put this under rumor. You can see the original source below.

iPhone 5S release dates

Rendering of a champagne-colored iPhone 5S: It will be interesting to see if Apple still has some big surprises in store that analysts and the media haven't covered yet.

We have iPhone 5S release dates, colors, and specs. Did I leave anything out?
Oh yeah, I forget to mention that they're all just rumors. But there's little left to the imagination these days when Apple rolls out a new product.
Apple is widely expected to hold an event unveiling the new iPhone on September 10. Japan's Nikkei said sales of the device will begin September 20 in that country, and then Chinese newspapers chimed in with a release date there of late November (due to China's verification process).
Here's what we've heard about prominent specs:
  • Camera: Probably the most important feature for the consumer is a better camera. The latest speculation on the camera claims it will get a larger f/2.0 aperture (that would match the HTC One) with dual LED flash. If accurate, that aperture would be significantly larger than the iPhone 5's. That means more light gets through, improving image quality and low-light performance.
  • Fingerprint scanner/reader in the home button: That technology is likely coming from AuthenTec, a fingerprint sensor technology company that Apple acquired last year. The larger point is the iPhone 5S may mainstream biometric technology, improving electronic payments and making it easier to get music and sensitive data from the cloud.
  • Chips: A 128GB flash storage option is the freshest speculation. That seems like overkill for most consumers but then 16GB seemed like a lot when the iPhone 3G came out. An updated A7 processor is also expected. Remember, the iPhone 4S got the new A5 processor when it was released in October 2011.
  • New 3G/4G standard support: Versions of the 5S (and 5C) may support China's 4G TDD-LTE standard. That could mean a huge boost in market penetration in China (and global market share) for Apple. (That support may also include China's TD-SCDMA.)
It's almost needless to mention at this point that there may be a gold iPhone 5S along with the standard black and white versions. The important point is that it most likely won't be a garish gold but a more subtle champagne color.

Google Nexus 7 Review (2013)

Google Nexus 7 Review (2013)

Design:

Commissioned yet again for the task at hand, Taiwan based company Asus has done yet another marvelous job designing the 2013 version of the Google Nexus 7. Simply, it has all the qualities we want to find in a successive device, as it’s both thinner (0.34”) in frame and lighter (10.55 oz) in weight to make it even easier to grasp with a single hand. We’ll admit, the design isn’t the most captivating over other shakers in the space, since it follows the same modest design structure as before, which is most notable for its subtle tapered edges, cleaner looking soft touch rear casing, and skinnier left/right bezels. It’s a minimalist design at its core, a defining characteristic for sure, but it doesn’t compromise with its construction either. Sure, it’s not flaunting a premium design like the iPad mini, but it really doesn’t need to, mainly because the updated design has an endearing effect on its own.

Sure, it’s not flaunting a premium design like the iPad mini, but it really doesn’t need to, mainly because the updated design has an endearing effect on its own.

With the minimalist design and all, the tablet’s façade is pretty clean looking, since the usual set of Android capacitive buttons are incorporated into the interface. However, there’s a single LED light that pulsates in white for notifications – while a front-facing 1.2-megapixel camera, enabled for 720 video recording, is perched in an offset position toward the upper right corner above the display.

Just as before, the right edge of the tablet is home to its physical power button and volume control – with each offering better feel and responsiveness than last year’s model. Furthermore, the microphone is also found on the same side as well. Up top, the only item we find is the 3.5mm headset jack – while the microUSB port is the single item that’s seen on the bottom side. Interestingly, the new Nexus 7 features two speakers that are placed in close proximity to the top and bottom edges of the tablet when it’s held in portrait.

Adding more depth, the Nexus 7 is now armed with a rear camera – a 5-megapixel auto-focus one to be exact, that’s capable of recording video in 1080p. Although it’s not something we’d particularly use all the time, especially when we’re talking about a tablet here, it’s nonetheless a pleasing addition to use when the tablet is the only thing within reach to snap something on the fly.

How to Take Control Of What Updates You See on Facebook

One of the biggest problem with most of social networking site is information overloading. For example, if you have 1000 friends on Facebook, it’s impossible for you to follow all the updates from your friends, and you miss out many important updates at time. Facebook addresses this issue with their Facebook algorithm, which determines what updates should be visible on your Facebook news feed. No matter what, by the end this is only a machine language, and you can’t expect it to be 100% perfect.  You are most likely to miss important updates from many friends, that you don’t want to miss. In this article, I will share some tips which you can use on your Facebook profile, to ensure that you don’t miss out important updates, and also it will help you to handle information overload to an extent.

How to take back control of your Facebook News feed:

If you interested to know how Facebook determine what updates you should see on your Facebook newsfeed, this article will give you great insight. Now, lets start taking control of our Facebook profile:
Hide news from news feed:
Lets start with minimising the updates we see. On Facebook, we are friends with just because of the social obligations. For example, your distant cousin, or your friend’s friend that you met at party. Most of the time, we are not interested to see all updates from them, and a good idea is to stop seeing updates from them. This will give more room for updates from friends, that we are more interested in. Simply go to person profile, and hover your mouse on friends, and uncheck option which says “Show in News feed”. After this, you will not see any update from the particular person on your news feed.
hide news from news feed
Use Friend Facebook organizer:
Facebook friend organizer is a useful tool by Facebook to quickly manage your friend list. This tool uses your past interaction to suggest you to put friends in Acquaintance list. If you wondering what is Acquaintance list, here is what happens, when you add a friend in your Fb acquaintance list: “This list is for friends you don’t need to stay in close touch with. People on your acquaintances list will rarely show up in your News Feed.”
Facebook friend organizer
Use Get notifications:
This is another interesting feature from Facebook, which will ensure that you never miss out an update from your friend or Fan page you liked. When you enable get notifications for any of your Facebook friends or Pages that you liked, you will get notification, as soon as your friend or page make a new post. To use this feature, simply go to your Friend profile, and under Friends, select option which says get notifications.
Get notifications
Another way to use this feature in mass is by using Facebook list feature. Create a list of important updates, and enable notification feature for that particular list.
Facebook list notifications
Engage with like, comment or share:
As I mentioned above, Facebook uses the algorithm to determine what appears on your news feed. So, if you want to see more updates from particular friends, or pages that you liked, always engage with the content shared by them. You can engage by commenting, liking or reshare their content.
Facebook interest list:
I’m unsure about this particular tip, but when ever I have browsed an interest list, it always shows updates in chronological order. This is more like creating a custom Facebook news feed, based on your interest. You can add your friends, pages, or public figure that you like. And instead of using default Facebook news feed, you might like to spend more time on your interest list. You can find complete detail about Facebook interest list over here.

Conclusion:

In short and simple words:
  • Filter out the updates from people and pages that you don’t want to see.
  • Engage more with content that you would like to see on your wall.
  • Use List or notifications feature, when you don’t want to miss out an update from particular person or brand pages.
Facebook is giving their best effort to ensure you (users) see only those updates, that you might be interested in. But, at the same time, it’s a good idea to make changes at your end, so that you don’t miss out any important updates, and see more of what you like to see.
If you use any other trick to manage your Facebook newsfeed, do let me know via comments. Don’t forget to like and share this article on Facebook.

Xbox One launch delayed until 2014 in 8 European markets

The Xbox One has hit a snag in eight European markets. Residents of Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Netherlands, Norway, Russia, Sweden, and Switzerland will have to wait until 2014 for the console's launch, Microsoft announced Wednesday.
The delay is due to issues with localizing the console's dashboard, adding additional voice and language support, and a current lack of substantial apps and "meaningful local content," says the Xbox Leadership Team's official announcement on the Xbox Wire blog.
The European countries that will get the console on time in November are the United Kingdom, Spain, France, Germany, Ireland, Austria, and Italy. That brings the Xbox One's confirmed country launch count to a total of 13, with the U.S., Brazil, Mexico, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.
While 13 countries spanning four continents is still nothing to scoff at, this delay will likely prove to be a sore point for many European customers, especially considering Microsoft promised a bit more for its 2013 launch. "At E3, we announced that Xbox One would be available in 21 markets around the world at launch. This was an aggressive goal and the team has been working very hard to deliver Xbox One to as many markets as possible," the statement acknowledged.
Because it failed to meet that 21-market goal, Microsoft will give away a free game -- yet to be disclosed -- for those customers who pre-ordered the Xbox One in the countries hit by delays. As for when in 2014 those markets will see the Xbox One, Microsoft stated "as soon as possible."

Firefox Made a Phone

Hello bloggers and gamers all over the globe. Firefox is an well know for his Web Browser. I think all of the people in world used it at once. But the big news is it launches a phone with his own OS.
Can a browser transform into a phone? Firefox maker Mozilla certainly hopes so, but skepticism among analysts has been the backdrop to Mozilla's claims of growing customer interest in itssmall, plasticky, and brightly colored Firefox phones.
Those phones have seen rapid expansion of availability in their first month on the market, from initial sales only in Spain, to now include Venezuela, Colombia, and soon eBay customers in the U.S. and the U.K.
he Firefox OS phones serve two purposes, according to Gartner analyst Carolina Milanesi. She said that the development of Firefox OS is about Mozilla "getting into the mobile space, and carriers being less dependent on Android" for low-cost phones.
The carrier-free ZTE Open phone will be sold, including shipping, for $79.99 in the U.S. and 59.99 pounds in the U.K. In the three other countries, the phones are tied to carriers -- so far, that's meant only Telefonica.
Christian Heilmann, Mozilla's principal developer evangelist, told CNET that the phones have been well-received so far. "Feedback is quite positive," he said, adding that most people are saying that they're using the Firefox phone as "either a beginner phone, or a smartphone that's replacing a feature phone."
And Li Gong, Mozilla's senior vice president for mobile devices and the company's president of Asia operations, said that "one Chinese guy in Spain wanted to buy 100 phones to take back to Hong Kong."
Mozilla is betting on attracting users based in part on the phone's low prices, comparable to those of a feature phone, while telling developers that building apps will be like building a Web site because the operating system embraces HTML5 and CSS3.
Some other selling points for the phones include the ability for in-app purchases to be charged to the carrier, precluding the need for credit cards, and the phones come with features that remain important in developing markets, such as FM band radios built in.
Hanging success on those factors is not a sure thing, however.
Jan Dawson, the chief telecoms analyst at Ovum, said that Mozilla's inability to get a U.S. or U.K. carrier to offer the phone reflects the inherent weakness in the strategy.

Beyond 2013, Mozilla will take a stab at some higher-end hardware in Japan with Sony, while it continues to push Firefox phones into newer low-cost markets like China and southeast Asia.
But even there the phones will face difficulties, said Mozilla's Li. "We consider this a low-cost phone, but in some markets it's not low-cost enough." China, Li said, will require a different strategy, along with different hardware: most phones sold there are not supported by the carriers, and China is a CDMA-band only country, not GSM or dual-band.
Perhaps the biggest hill the Firefox phone must climb in order to thrive is one of perception. It doesn't have the backing of the billions of dollars needed to compete with Android and iOS, as Windows Phone does, and it's not clear yet that Web developers will migrate to HTML5 apps as willingly as Mozilla claims they will.
Major redesigns for Firefox on desktops and on Android have paid off for Mozilla in the past. Mobile phones, though, could be the snare that catches the 'fox.
